A Breath of Fresh Air

January 14, 2025

Last year at this time we introduced solar panels as a new standard feature on all of our homes. This has been well received by our buyers and has saved each of them hundreds of dollars per year on their electric bills. Including solar panels on our houses has also helped to differentiate us from other builders who are not offering this value-adding feature to their buyers.

Now in 2025 we are rolling out another exciting feature to give our buyers even more benefit and to further distinguish ourselves from our competitors. Beginning this year, each new home started will now include an ERV (Energy Recovery Ventilator) to provide people with continuous fresh, filtered, and  conditioned air inside their homes!

Houses are now being built more airtight to meet stricter energy codes. While this is a good thing, it is necessary to ventilate these homes to bring in fresh air while expelling stale air and carbon dioxide out of the house. This is typically done be exhausting air out of the house and sucking air into the house through leaks and voids. An ERV ventilates the house in a much cleaner and energy-efficient way.  An ERV pulls fresh air into the house as stale air is being exhausted out, but the fresh air is cleaned by multiple filters and tempered by the outgoing air, so you're not introducing sub-freezing air into your home in the winter and 100 degree air in the summer!

Why is indoor air quality so important to us? Every human being breathes into their lungs each day enough air to fill a swimming pool. That's a lot of air, and most of us spend a lot of time indoors, especially in our own homes. We already build our houses to meet Indoor AirPlus standards, and adding ERVs makes our healthy homes even healthier! ERVs are especially helpful for people who have asthma, respiratory issues, or allergies. They are also helpful in reducing the spread of airborne germs.

Here are a few things the ERV filters out from your air:

  • Dust
  • Pollen and allergens
  • Pet dander
  • Smoke
  • Smog
  • Mold
  • Radon
  • VOCs
  • Bacteria and viruses
  • Odors
  • Excess humidity
  • Stale air
  • Carbon dioxide
  • Carbon monoxide

Indoor air quality is just one more way we are looking out for you, our customers, and we're excited to be making our houses healthier and more energy-efficient!
